Craven CC artwork for the 1992 event
Results from the first open event in 1990

Many thanks to Martin Brass (14th place in 1990, rider number 96) for loan of the original race promotional material. The artwork produced by Craven CC is a fine contribition to the history of the event. Something has been added to one of the maps – it will take a very sharp eye to find it.
Looking at the 1990 results it can be seen that Martin Brass started at 11:36 with Gethin Butler starting 4 minutes later. From the finishing times it can be ascertained with some degree of confidence that Gethin overtook Martin in the vicinity of White Scar Cave, very close to the finish. The view would be similar to this. More pictures of the course here.
Today’s course is the same as the original, 26.2 miles in length. That the length was originally stated to be 27.5 miles remains a puzzle.
