Barrow Central Wheelers 21 mile hilly TT on L212. 23/04/2023.
Course
L212 is an out and back course on the A5087 coast road between Ulverston and Barrow-in-Furness. There are four hilly sections in total, each about two and a half miles in length separated by flatter parts next to the shore and near the far turn a Ulverston. The short climbs reach a maximum gradient of around 1:10 giving a total ascent of around 900feet. By SpoCo standards, it is rather gentle, similar in many regard to the Lazonby 20.
Being very exposed and on the coast, the wind can have adramatic effect as it did in the 2022 event. In 2023 the wind was moderate, around 6mph from the northeast with a temperature starting at a chilly 6°C but warming rapidly as the event went on.
